Why did I get this Jet Blue voucher?
Posted by Hannah Clark Steiman at 2:19 PM
This weekend I flew on JetBlue from New York City to Portland, Maine. Today, I opened my email and learned that I received a $15 voucher because the DIRECTV service went out during the one hour we were airborne on the return trip. This voucher seemed odd, for two reasons.
1. I didn't notice the DIRECTV going out on the flight.
2. Since when do airlines care if the DIRECTV goes out on a flight?
My hypothesis: This is basically a coupon. They're just trying to give me an incentive to book another JetBlue flight. For some reason, they decided that apologizing for some malfunction and sending out a voucher would be more effective than just sending out a coupon. Perhaps this way, customers will give them points for customer service AND book their next flight on JetBlue.
